Crease Keeper by Daymond42 Crease Keeper by Daymond42
Those of you who talk to me regularly online will know that I am a big hockey fan, and also that I do actually play hockey, as a goalie.

If you didn't know that.... well now you do. :>

Still working on my skating skills, so I typically play ball (or dek) hockey, but I do get to play while on shoes at the local rink when they do the adult co-ed roller hockey, since they seem to have a shortage of goalies.

For any hockey gear geeks out there, the pieces are as follows:

Mask: Reebok 3K with Jean-Sebastien Giguere's Anaheim design (not painted.. just a vinyl wrap or something)
Blocker and Trapper: Vaughn V3 7400
Pants: Tackla 6600
Leg Pads: Koho 590
Stick: Bauer Supreme 7000

I do have some backup pieces, like my Reebok 6k (Premier II) blocker, Koho 490 tapper, multiple other sticks, and my TPS GM1 goalie mask.

... nice to have contingencies!

It's a Canadian show, centered in Toronto, and run by a mysterious guy known only as "Cake."

Lol! I think you can find it online, somewhere... Not too sure.

Oh hey, there's an idea. Miyuna and Krystal Face off at center ice. XD Either way, we're pucked.

Oh I've been meaning to do some hockey-related renders, but models of hockey equipment are near impossible to come by.

I sometimes wonder about the goalies who played before the masks became part of the equipment. How do those guys avoid getting hit by a flying puck coming at their head?

Shots to the head are usually pretty rare, for the most part. Add in the fact that during the mask-less days, goalies stood in a more upright stance, and that would have the head quite a bit higher than the top of the net, so there would be no reason for a shooter to aim that high, since he would know he'd be missing the net.

Even in more modern days, with a crouched deep stance, the head typically is a li'l above the crossbar.

Though last Friday during pot-shot practice, I did get caught dead-on with a slapshot to the cage of my mask. No damage. :)

That's interesting to know. I remember a sports cartoon in they showed a hockey goalie who was so broad-shouldered that he literally covered the entire net. Players of the opposing team could only say, "Talk about a perfect fit."

That's a good example of how taller people are typically better goalies since they can cover more of the net without having to move so much. I, on the other hand, am 5'6", and have to rely on quickness and standing a bit farther out from the net to take away some of the shooting angles. Of course, being farther out also means that my reflexes have to be really good... which they're not. XD And I have kinda weak knees, so I get beat low rather often.

Gotta give credit to Hockey Goalies, Baseball catchers, and football players who go through a lot of physical punishment.

Amen to that. I'm facing people in their late teens to mid-20s, and I'm getting some decent welts on my legs where I got tagged by the puck in an area that had no padding (incidentally, the puck also then went into the net, so.. note to self: don't let it hit me there.).

One of these days, I'm gonna get a goalie mask custom-painted. Even got a tentative design planned... :D
